Glenford Phase I (CDBG) Sidewalk Improvements, Village of Glenford, OH

The Village of Glenford saw the need to improve the sidewalk connectively within the Village to their various parks and neighbors. As well as Glenford Elementary School centrally located within the Village. The existing sidewalk system has many gaps leaving the residents to walk in the street. With two arterial highways passing through the mayor and council hire ADR & Associates, Ltd. to assist them in preparing a grant to design and construct new sidewalks that would improve the safety and provide better accessibility to points of interest within the Village. Through the Perry County Board of Commissioner’s Office and Hocking Athens Perry Community Action (HAPCAP), ADR and the Village submitted and were awarded a Community Development Block Grant for the first phase of the sidewalk improvements late 2010.

Official authorization from the grant administrator (HAPCAP) was received July 1, 2011 to proceed with the design and construction of the project. The project for phase I was to connect the existing sidewalk on Broad Street by the New Life Apostolic Church to the existing sidewalk at the exit of the school parking lot, at the end of Broad Street. Bids were advertised and a construction services were awarded to Ultimate Enterprises, Inc. to build 520 feet of new sidewalk, new crosswalks, and six new handicap ramps. Construction lasted approximately two weeks and was open for use early October 2011.
